The Citizenship Act of 1955 provides five ways to acquire Indian citizenship:
By Birth: Anyone born in India on or after January 26, 1950, but before July 1, 1987, is an Indian citizen by birth regardless of parents' nationality.
By Descent: A person born outside India on or after January 26, 1950, can be an Indian citizen if either parent was an Indian citizen at the time of birth.
By Registration: Foreign nationals who meet certain criteria can register for citizenship, such as persons of Indian origin, spouses of Indian citizens, and minor children.
By Naturalization: Foreigners can apply for citizenship after residing in India for a specified period (usually 12 years).
By Incorporation of Territory: When new territory becomes part of India, its residents automatically become Indian citizen
