Bharat Nirman was a rural infrastructure development program launched by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in 2005.
It aimed to improve basic infrastructure in rural areas across six key sectors.
Six Focus Areas of Bharat Nirman:
Rural Housing – Construction of houses for the poor under the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY).
Rural Roads – Expansion of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for better connectivity.
Rural Water Supply – Ensuring safe drinking water to all villages.
Rural Electrification – Extending electricity to all villages under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY).
Irrigation – Expansion of irrigation facilities to increase agricultural productivity.
Rural Telephony – Enhancing telecom and internet connectivity in rural areas.
