A park is in the shape of a trapezium. Find the size of the smaller one of parallel sides of the park if its area is 450 sq m, the perpendicular height is 12 m and one of the parallel sides is 50% more than the other?

A30 m

B36 m

C40 m

D25 m

Answer:

A. 30 m

Read Explanation:

Solution:

Given:

The area of trapezoid = 450 m2

The vertical height of the trapezoid = 12 m

Formula used:

The area of trapezoid = {(a + b)/2} × h

Where, a = The shorter side of the trapezoid, b = The longer side of the trapezoid, and h = The height of the trapezoid

Calculation:

Let's assume shorter side of the trapezoid is a

⇒ The longer side of the trapezoid = a × (100 + 50)/100 = a × (150/100) = 3a/2

⇒ 450 = {(a + 3a/2)/2} × 12

⇒ 75 = (2a + 3a)/2

⇒ 150 = 5a

⇒ a = 150/5 = 30 m

∴ The required result will be 30 m.
