Half of the perimeter of a rectangle is 45 cm. If the length of a rectangle is 5 cm more than its breadth, then what is the area of the rectangle?

A400 sqcm

B550 sqcm

C450 sqcm

D500 sqcm

Answer:

D. 500 sqcm

Read Explanation:

Solution:

Given:

1/2 × Perimeter = 45 cm

Length = (Breadth + 5) cm

Formula:

Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 × (a + b) unit

Area of a rectangle = (a × b sq. unit

Where, a = Length of the rectangle,

b = Breadth of the rectangle

Calculation:

Let, Breadth of the rectangle = b cm

So, Length of the rectangle = (b + 5) cm

According to the question,

⇒ 1/2 × [2 × (b + 5 + b)] = 45

⇒ 2b + 5 = 45

⇒ 2b = 40

⇒ b = 20

Now, Area of the rectangle

⇒ (b + 5) × b

⇒ (20 + 5) × 20 = 25 × 20 = 500 cm2

∴ The area of the rectangle is 500 cm2.
