The term "Green Revolution" was first used by William S. Gaud, the administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in a speech on 8 March 1968. The green revolution is the initiative launched for the development of new crop varieties to increase agricultural production in developing countries. Norman Borlaug is considered the "father of the green revolution". M S Swaminathan is considered as the "father of the green revolution in India".
