Kerala State Planning Board
- The Kerala State Planning Board was constituted in September, 1967 with the Chief Minister as Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson.
- In addition to Minister for Finance and Chief Secretary to the Government, there were three full time members.
- The Director, Bureau of Economics and Statistics, was the first Member Secretary.
- The Board was formed in order to enable the State Government to formulate development Plans based on a scientific assessment of the resources of the State on the one hand and the growth priorities on the other.
- The Board was also entrusted with the task of bringing out a comprehensive Economic Review of the State every year.
Functions of the Kerala State Planning Board

- Formulating Five-Year and Annual Plans
- Writing the annual Economic Review
- Monitoring Plan implementation through Planspace, the Management Information System
- Interdepartmental coordination with respect to Plan schemes
- Housing and coordinating the work of the Decentralisation Cell
- Commissioning studies and fulfilling a think-tank function
- Coordinating information and recommendations with respect to externally aided programmes, centrally sponsored schemes, NABARD, and CSR funds
- Preparing policy briefs for the Chairperson
- Responding to requests from Departments for instruction and advice.
