Folk Dances of Himachal Pradesh
The Dangi dance of Himachal Pradesh is primarily performed by women at the Goddess Naina Devi temple during the harvest season.
This dance is inspired by one of the state’s oldest folklores and features two main themes.
The Nati dance, which has several regional variations across Himachal Pradesh, includes styles such as Kinnauri Nati, performed at the start of new festivals; Kullu Nati, commonly showcased during the Dussehra festival; and Shiv Badar Nati, performed during Shivaratri.
The Rakshasa (demon) dance of Himachal Pradesh bears resemblance to Punjab’s Bhangra dance.
Dancers wear demon masks to depict the mythical attack of demons on the crops.
