Folk Dances of Andhra Pradesh
The Lambadi folk dance is traditionally performed by women from the Senegalese and Banjara tribes of the state.
Veera Natyam, one of Andhra Pradesh’s oldest folk dances, is performed by men of the Veeramusti community in Saivite temples located in the Kurnool, Anantapur, and Khammam districts.
Tappeta Gundlu, another well-known folk dance, is popular in the northern districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnam.
It is performed by members of the Yadava community in devotion to their water goddess, Gangamma.
While folk dances like Butta Bommalu and Veera Natyam are performed without vocal accompaniment, others such as Kolatam, Tappeta Gundlu, and Chiratala Bhajana integrate both dance and musical storytelling.
