On July 11, 2024, the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Thiruvananthapuram received its first mothership, the MV San Fernando.
MV San Fernando is owned by SFL Corporation and is chartered by Maersk (AP Moller Group), a major global shipping and logistics company.
The Vizhinjam seaport has a natural draft of 18-20 metres, allowing it to accommodate some of the world’s largest container vessels without extensive dredging.
As one of India’s deep-water ports, Vizhinjam’s capacity to host large container vessels enhances its potential as a strategic hub for international maritime trade.
