Part I: General Knowledge and Current Affairs

Facts about India

Geography of India including physical features, climate, soils, rivers, and famous sites. Demography, economic and social development, poverty alleviation, economy, and planning. History of India covering the period from 1857 to 1947 and the national movement. Five Year Plans.

Facts about Kerala

Geographical facts including physical features, climate, soils, rivers, famous sites, economic and social development, and historical importance.

Renaissance in Kerala

Important events, movements, and leaders. Featured leaders include Brahmananda Swami Sivayogi, Chattampi Swami, Sree Narayana Guru, Vagbhatananda, Thycaud Ayya, Ayya Vaikundar, Poikayil Yohannan (Kumara Guru), Ayyankali, Pandit Karuppan, Mannathu Padmanabhan, V. T. Bhattathirippad, Dr. Palpu, Kumaranasan, Vakkom Moulavi, and Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara.

Current Affairs

Important world, national, and regional events related to the political and scientific fields, sports, cinema, and literature.

Part II: Computer Word Processing

Basics of Computer

Input devices, output devices, hardware, software, memory, storage devices, and latest peripherals. E-mail, browsers, search engines, social networking, antivirus softwares, unicode, websites, and windows.

MS Word

Introduction to the word window, title bar, ribbon, status bar, and tool bar. Document operations including create, open, save, print, and close. Font size, style, and effects. Formatting elements such as numbering, bullets, paragraph settings, bold, italics, underline, justify, dropcap, change case, alignment, tab setting, line spacing, and character spacing. Styles and editing functions including cut, copy, and paste. Shortcut keys and function keys. Insertion of tables, pictures, cliparts, shapes, page number, headers and footers, symbols, links, and word art. Page layout configurations including page size, margin, line spacing, orientation, and indentation. Creation of table of contents, index, footnotes, and endnotes. Mail merge, proof reading, and adding or removing comments. Views including different page views, guides, and rulers.

MS Excel

Introduction of Excel, adding and removing workbooks, rows, and columns. Formatting a cell, different functions in Excel, charts, pivot table, sort, filter, and conditional formatting. Creating formulas, inserting date and time, data validation, and shortcut keys.

Power Point

Inserting and deleting a slide, and different workspace views. Inserting charts, diagrams, smartart, sound, video, slide number, links, date, and time. Page setup, slide orientation, slide show, slide layout, and arranging objects on the slide.

Part III Type Writing

History of typewriter, keys of typewriter, parts of typewriter, and cleaning a typewriter. Rocker mechanism, dog block, and movements of typewriter. Official abbreviations, functions of typewriter, and symbols.

Part IV General English

Module 1: Comprehension Passage

A comprehension passage used to test the accuracy and clarity of the student. Synonyms and antonyms can be asked from the passage. Tests can include the past tense or past participle of the verb of a given word from the passage. Different aspects of grammatical usages can be tested along with giving one word answers.

Module 2: Editing

This module aims at sentence correction and the correction of a given passage. Focus areas include editing, capitalization, and punctuation such as exclamation marks and colons. Sentence correction includes subject verb agreement, for example, police are looking for the thief.

Module 3: English usage in day to day affairs

Incomplete sentences in dialogues are required to be completed using question tags or usages such as had better, not only but also, and if clauses including conditional clauses like unless.

Module 4: Idioms and Phrases

Commonly used idioms will be evaluated through multiple choice options, for example, it is a red letter day for me.

Module 5: Word order and sentence order

Jumbled sentences where a given sentence is inverted so that different options may be given for selecting the correct answer.

Module 6: Basic Grammar

Grammar fundamentals covering articles, prepositions, tenses, clauses, and phrasal verbs.

Module 7: Voice

Change of voice between active and passive.

Module 8: Reported Speech

Exercises on direct and indirect reported speech.

Module 9: Spell Check

Testing knowledge of words such as hat-trick, vacuum, accommodation, queue, tuition, and enmity.
