Kerala PSC Plus Two-Level Exams: Common & Post-wise Syllabus — An Overview

When you apply for a Kerala PSC post for which the educational qualification is Class 12 (Plus Two), many posts share a common preliminary test (often called the “Plus Two Level common preliminary exam”). This ensures that all candidates are tested on a baseline of general knowledge, reasoning, language skills etc.

However, after the common stage, for many posts there is a main exam, or an additional test (or “special topic / subject related to the nature of duty of the post”) which varies depending on which post you have applied to (for example, police constable, civil excise officer, fireman, typist clerk, etc.).

So we can think of the syllabus structure in two layers:

Layer

What it contains

Purpose

Common portion

Subjects like History, Geography, Economics, Civics, Indian Constitution, Science, Arithmetic / Mental Ability, General English, Regional Language, Current Affairs etc.

To filter all candidates on a standard basis

Post-specific / special portion

Topics more closely aligned with the duties and domain of the particular post (e.g. laws, police, fire services, typing, regulations, local administration)

To further distinguish candidates based on relevancy to the job

In practice, the “common” syllabus is largely the same across 12th-level posts, but the weightage (marks distribution) and the special topics differ. Also, whether a post requires physical test, skill test, or interview affects which parts matter more.

We earlier discussed how most Plus Two level posts share a common syllabus (in preliminary and main stages) plus post-specific additions. Now we present a concluding “master list” of common posts, with direct links or references to official syllabus PDFs (or official PSC pages) wherever available.
